I used to attend a church that didn’t believe in healing. I knew in my heart that this couldn’t be right. Why would a loving Father not want his children to be healthy? What finally confirmed for me that God’s will is healing is the fact that Jesus Christ always healed EVERYONE who came to Him for help. He never, ever caused sickness, pain, or death. He only delivered people from these things. Jesus ALWAYS did God’s will; therefore, healing has to be the will of God. The Greek word for “save” is sozo it means to make safe, deliver, protect, heal, preserve, and make whole (body, soul and spirit).
MATTHEW 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in the synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing EVERY sickness and EVERY disease among the people.
LUKE 6:19 TPT The entire crowd eagerly tried to come near Jesus so they could touch him and be healed, because a tangible supernatural power emanated from him, healing all who came close to him.
MARK 5:21-26 TPT After Jesus returned from across the lake, a huge crowd of people quickly gathered around him on the shoreline. Just then, a man saw that it was Jesus, so he pushed through the crowd and threw himself down at his feet. His name was Jairus, a Jewish official who was in charge of the synagogue. He pleaded with Jesus, saying over and over, “Please come with me! My little daughter is at the point of death, and she’s only twelve years old! Come and lay your hands on her and heal her and she will live! Immediately Jesus went with him, and the huge crowd followed, pressing in on him from all sides. Now in the crowd a woman who had suffered horribly from continual bleeding for twelve years. She had endured a great deal under the care of various doctors, yet in spite of spending all she had on their treatments, she was not getting better, but worse. (Note: Doctors are not our healers. God is. He can work through doctors, and we should pray for Him to give wisdom to those we go to; but don’t put all your faith in man or his medicine.)
27-34 When she heard about Jesus’ healing power, she pushed through the crowd and came up from behind him and touched his prayer shawl. For she kept saying to herself, “If only I could touch his clothes, I know I will be healed.” As soon as her hand touched him, her bleeding immediately stopped! She knew it, for she could feel her body instantly being healed of her disease!
Jesus knew at once that someone had touched him, for he felt the power that always surged around him had passed through him for someone to be healed. He turned and spoke to the crowd, saying, “Who touched my clothes?” His disciples answered, “What do you mean, who touched you? Look at this huge crowd –they’re all pressing up against you. But Jesus’ eyes swept across the crowd, looking for the one who had touched him for healing. When the woman who experienced this miracle realized what had happened to her, she came before him, trembling with fear, and threw herself down at his feet, saying, “I was the one who touched you.” And she told him her story of what had just happened. Then Jesus said to her, “Daughter, because you dared to believe, your faith has healed you. Go with peace in your heart, and be free from your suffering.”
This is such a tender passage. According to the law, the woman was not supposed to be in public with the condition she had. She was an outcast. She could have been rebuked or even chastised for what she was doing. But our compassionate Savior settled her fears by calling her daughter. How this must have melted her heart. She was not only healed; she was also lovingly accepted by Jesus. He even commended her for her faith. So let’s look at her faith. Was she focusing on whether she had enough faith to be healed? Absolutely not, she was focusing on JESUS. She knew He could heal her even if she only touched the hem of His garment. She trusted that God worked miracles through Him. Now, let’s continue with this section of scripture.
35-42 And before he had finished speaking, people arrived from Jairus’ house and pushed through the crowd to give Jairus the news: “There’s no need to trouble the master any longer –your daughter has died.” But Jesus refused to listen to what they were told and said to the Jewish official, “Don’t yield to fear. All you need to do is to keep on believing.” So they left for his home, but Jesus didn’t allow anyone to go with them except Peter and the two brothers, Jacob and John. When they arrived at the home of the synagogue ruler, they encountered a noisy uproar among the people, for they were all weeping and wailing. Upon entering the home, Jesus said to them, “Why all this grief and weeping? Don’t you know the girl is not dead but merely asleep?” Then everyone began to ridicule and make fun of him. But he threw them all outside. Then he took the child’s father and mother and his three disciples and went into the room where the girl was lying. He tenderly clasped the child’s hand in his and said to her in Aramaic, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, wake up from the sleep of death.” Instantly the twelve-year-old girl sat up, stood to her feet, and started walking around the room! Everyone was overcome with astonishment in seeing this miracle!
Praise God! What an exciting passage. It gives a person great hope to read what Christ did while here on earth. He always did God’s will and had great compassion for people. He brought forth healing and deliverance to all who came to Him. All these people had heard about Jesus and had faith that He would heal them. We also should focus on HIS ability. Faith is a fruit of our relationship with Jesus and the Father; a trust that overrides the doubt and fear of negative circumstances and seeming impossibilities.
MARK 10:47-52 TPT When he heard that Jesus from Nazareth was passing by, he began to shout “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me now in my affliction. Heal me!” Those in the crowd were indignant and scolded him for making so much of a disturbance, but he kept shouting with all his might, “Son of David, have mercy on me now and heal me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him to come to me.” So they went to the blind man and said, “Have courage! Get up! Jesus is calling for you!” So he threw off his beggars’ cloak, jumped up, and made his way to Jesus. Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The man replied, “My Master, please, let me see again!” Jesus responded, “Your faith heals you. Go in peace, with your sight restored.” All at once, the man’s eyes opened and he could see again, and he began at once to follow Jesus, walking down the road with him.
MARK 1:40-43 TPT On one occasion, a leper came and threw himself down in front of Jesus, pleading for his healing, saying, “You have power to heal me right now if only you really want to!” Being deeply moved with tender compassion, Jesus reached out and touched the skin of the leper and told him, “Of course I want you to be healed –so now be cleansed!” Instantly his leprous sores completely disappeared and his skin became smooth!
As we speak forth God’s word, creation listens. That’s because the Holy Spirit is speaking through us. Jesus is with us and it is through His sacrifice that people are healed. Healing is part of our salvation. There are times when God’s presence (glory) is so strong that people are healed without even being prayed for or touched. Before you pray for someone, welcome the Holy Spirit and ask for wisdom. Be still for a moment until you sense His presence. Sometimes God inspires words of exhortation to help heal emotional wounds, prior to praying for the physical needs. Many times the prayer is a command, straight to the point. Either way, declare with love and authority the words God gives you to bring forth deliverance. When Christ did healing miracles during His ministry, He usually spoke a short command that required a response. Many times, He also lovingly reached out and touched those He was ministering to. If someone is in a pit of physical, mental, or emotional despair, it’s not our job to analyze if it was caused by sinful activity. Simply love them and ask if it is okay to pray for them. When Jesus brought forth healing, it was almost always instantaneous (the few that weren’t, still happened the same day). This is our desire when we lay hands on the sick. But, if the healing isn’t instantaneous, don’t give up. One time even Jesus had to touch a blind man twice before the healing was complete. Don’t be embarrassed to pray again and again. Trust that a seed has been planted; give it time to manifest fully.
MARK 8:23-25 TPT So Jesus led him, as his sighted guide, outside the village. He placed his saliva on the man’s eyes and covered them with his hands. The he asked him, “Now do you see anything?” “Yes,” he said. “My sight is coming back! I’m beginning to see people, but they look like trees –walking trees.” Jesus put his hands over the man’s eyes a second time and made him look up. The man opened his eyes wide and could see everything perfectly. His eyesight was completely restored!
As people rejoice over their healing, it is an ideal opportunity to share more about the love of God, repentance, forgiveness, and salvation through Christ. In the following verses we see that the disciples also walked in the healing power that Jesus had.
ACTS 3:2-10 TPT As they came to the entrance called the Beautiful Gate, they were captured by the sight of a man crippled from birth being carried and placed at the entrance to the temple. He was often brought there to beg for money from those going in to worship. When he noticed Peter and John going into the temple, he begged them for money.
Peter and John, looking straight into the eyes of the crippled man, said, “Look at us!” Expecting a gift, he readily gave them attention. Then Peter said, “I don’t have money, but I’ll give you this –by the power of the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk!” Peter held out his right hand to the crippled man. As he pulled the man to his feet, suddenly power surged into his crippled feet and ankles. The man jumped up, stood there for a moment stunned, and then began to walk around! As he went into the temple courts with Peter and John, he leapt for joy and shouted praises to God.
When all the people saw him jumping up and down and heard him glorifying God, they realized it was the crippled beggar they had passed by in front of the Beautiful Gate. Astonishment swept over the crowd, for they were amazed over what had happened to him.
12 With the crowd surrounding him, Peter said to them all, “People of Israel, listen to me! Why do you stare at us? We didn’t make this crippled man walk by our own power or authority. The God of our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has done this. For he has glorified his Servant Jesus, the one you denied to Pilate’s face when he decided to release him-and you insisted that he be crucified. You rejected the one who is holy and righteous, and instead begged for a murderer to be released. You killed the Prince of Life! But God raised him from the dead, and we stand here as witnesses to that fact. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed this man standing before you. It is the faith that comes through believing in Jesus’ name that has made the crippled man walk right in front of your eyes!
When Jesus sent the seventy before Him, He gave them power to heal the sick and to proclaim that the kingdom of God had come. They returned with joy saying that even the devils were subject to them through Jesus’ name. These same miracles happen for believers after Pentecost when we have received Holy Spirit. The power of God has been restored to believers through Christ Jesus. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bend. He is much greater than any enemy we can ever face! Even though He isn’t here in the flesh, Christ and God spiritually abide within us. Any miracle we impart is The Spirit working through us. What a priceless and blessed privilege. I heard the true account of a group of women traveling together who witnessed a horrific accident happening right in front of them. As they saw a car drive off of a cliff, the only word they had time to speak was, “JESUS!” Immediately the vehicle stopped its forward momentum and it began to descend. It was as if the angels responded to the proclamation of Jesus’ name and laid it safely on the ground. Miracles do still happen!
JOHN 14:12-14 TPT “I tell you this timeless truth: The person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do –even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father! For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him. Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you!”
MARK 16:17-18 TPT “And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of my name. They will speak in tongues. They will be supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous. And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them.”
MATTHEW 10:7-6 TPT “And as you go, preach this message: Heaven’s kingdom realm is accessible, close enough to touch. You must continually bring healing to lepers and to those who are sick, and make it your habit to break off the demonic presence from people, and raise the dead back to life. Freely you have received the power of the kingdom, so freely release it to others.”
There may be times when you cannot physically be with the person for whom you are praying. This is not a problem. God is not limited by our personal presence.
MATTHEW 8:5-10 TPT When Jesus entered the village of Capernaum, a captain in the Roman army approached him, asking for a miracle. “Lord,” he said, “I have a son who is lying in my home. Paralyzed and suffering terribly.” Jesus responded, “I will go with you and heal him.” But the Roman officer interjected, “Lord, who am I to have you come into my house? I understand your authority, for I too am a man who walks under authority and have authority over soldiers who serve under me. I can tell one to go and he’ll go, and another to come and he’ll come. I order my servants and they’ll do whatever I ask. So I know that all you need to do is to stand here and command healing over my son and he will be instantly healed.”
Jesus was astonished when he heard this and said to those who were following him, “He has greater faith than anyone I’ve encounter in Israel!
13 Then Jesus turned to the Roman officer and said, “Go home. All that you have believed for will be done for you!” And his son was healed at that very moment.
Faith understands AUTHORITY; it discerns just who Jesus is. He is the Messiah; the Son of the Most High God! The Father gave Him authority over everything. We now have authority IN HIM. In Matthew, Chapter 17, the disciples couldn’t cast out a demon in a possessed boy. Jesus addressed the father’s faith and then told him, “BRING THE BOY TO ME”. Always remember to bring people back to their Savior. Trust God and give Him the glory. Speak His words with authority and allow His power to flow through you!
II CORINTHIANS 4:7 TPT We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within, so that the extraordinary overflow of power will be seen as God’s, not ours.
One afternoon I was returning from work and stopped to visit my mom and dad. I asked how they were doing and my mom replied, “Not very well, I just hurt my knee really badly.” I asked if she’d like me to pray for her. She replied, “Yes.” I wasn’t feeling very spiritual at the time. I hadn’t been in a worship meeting, but I knew that the healing in no way depended on me. As I prayed I put my hand on her knee. The prayer was simple as I acknowledged how much God loved her and that through Christ’s stripes she was healed. I concluded the prayer in Jesus name. As I stepped back, mom said, “Boy, I could feel the warmth from your hand on my knee.” She then said, “It feels better, I’m going to walk around.” When she came back from her walk she exclaimed, “The pain is gone!” To God be all the glory through Jesus Christ our Lord.
JEREMIAH 30:17a For I will restore health to you, I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.
PSALM 103:2-5 TPT Yahweh, you are my soul’s celebration. How could I ever forget the miracles of kindness you’ve done for me? You kissed my heart with forgiveness, in spite of all I’ve done. You’ve healed me inside and out from every disease. You’ve rescued me from hell and saved my life. You’ve crowned me with love and mercy. You satisfy my every desire with good things. You’ve supercharged my life so that I soar again like a flying eagle in the sky!
If you have prayed or been prayed for and the healing didn’t immediately manifest, don’t give up and think sickness is God’s will. The seed has been planted; stay in faith. God doesn’t want you to suffer; He wants you to be made whole. Visualize Christ carrying your sickness on His body on the cross and visualize yourself healed and blessed. Write down and declare promises from the word that you want to experience. Keep trusting God. He has heard your prayer and is taking action on your behalf. The word of God plays an important role in healing. Keep on reading, hearing, and declaring His word throughout the day, every day.
PROVERBS 4:20-23 TPT Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say. Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being. So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.
PSALM 107:20 He sent his word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions.
The word helps to guard our heart, heal it from hurt, and encourage it through hope. Reading about Jesus in the gospels is a great place to start. Also, Psalm 23 has been promoted as having medicinal benefits when declared repeatedly. Speaking forth God’s promises is like sowing seeds. You may not see immediate results, but in time your harvest will come. Have faith and declare victory in Jesus. Acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence. Spend intimate time with your Heavenly Abba and Lord Jesus Christ.
Good health is enhanced by a prospering soul and a joyful spirit. Sometimes we need inner healing before we will open up to physical healing. Here are some suggestions. First of all ask for and receive forgiveness for your sins. Then forgive those who have hurt you. That may not be easy, but it is for your own good. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recall what is triggering any negative emotions that you are currently experiencing including fear, unforgiveness, anger, loneliness, self-condemnation, sin consciousness, unworthiness, stress, helplessness, inadequacy, emptiness, physical or emotional pain. Say out loud that you choose to release all of those issues from your soul. Now decree that you choose as an act of your will to bind to your soul, in their place, God's life, love, joy, peace, and His perfect will for your life. Ask Him to fill you from head to toe with His unconditional love and perfect peace. If you are experiencing sharp pains, it could be witchcraft. Sever all witchcraft that might be coming against you in Jesus' name. Then rub the affected area and release the PEACE of God over it. If you can’t sleep, command the REST of God over your body and soul in Jesus' name. (I learned a lot of what I shared in this paragraph from Kat Kerr. I highly recommend checking out her resources.)
III JOHN 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
PROVERBS 17:22 A merry heart does good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones.
PROVERBS 16:20b Whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.
We should try to be good to our bodies and thankful for them. They are amazing! We all know that a healthy diet and exercise are very profitable for us. Also, try to remember to BLESS whatever you eat or drink. Don’t condemn yourself if you do get sick. When battling an illness, actively seek God’s healing presence through His word, prayer, communion, and worship. You might want to look into natural cures and remedies instead of running straight to the doctor or pharmacy. This is why I've included the immune supporting supplement INFORCE on this website. Ask God to give you wisdom and guidance. Give your body time to rest and heal. Soft, soothing worship music with edifying words or no words at all can calm and refresh your heart. Studies have shown that anointed music activates the part of the brain that actually initiates healing. The same is true of speaking in tongues. Stress, fear, unforgiveness, and self-condemnation are major contributors to illness. Sometimes your body retains the toxic residue from these negative emotions to punish itself and restrict the flow of God’s healing power. Jesus took our punishment for us. It is imperative that you FORGIVE yourself and others. Cast out accusative thoughts sent by the enemy. Confess that you are righteous in Christ. Open your heart to Him and allow the Spirit of God to flow freely. Yield to and welcome His glorious, healing presence into every cell of your body. Be thankful as you picture yourself united with Jesus and resting contentedly in Abba’s loving embrace.
Taking Communion has also been know to activate healing. To learn more about communion and review a communion prayer click on this page link - HEALING AND COMMUNION
